Eighty-five percent of 2008 graduates from Wayne County Public Schools are continuing their education this fall at two- and four-year institutions, officials announ-ced.
Of the 1,202 graduates from the seven county high schools, 1,021 reported in an exit survey their intention to go on to college.
Surveys indicated that 330 graduates enrolled in four-year public colleges or universities in North Carolina, while 23 are attending four-year public institutions out of state. Ninety-two graduates indicated their intention to attend a four-year in-state private college, while 15 enrolled at a private institution outside the state.
Another 529 graduates planned to attend a two-year community college in the state, with 10 attending a two-year community college out of state. Twenty-two graduates are either at junior colleges, trade schools, business schools or nursing programs.
The remainder were divided -- with 50 planning to go into the military, 91 going directly to work, and 40 students still undecided at the time of the survey.
