Wayne County Public Schools will announce its annual "Teacher of the Year" during a banquet Thursday night at Walnut Creek Country Club.
Kathy Best, a business teacher at Rosewood High School, will turn over the title to one of three finalists during the event.
Earlier in the year, one candidate from each of the 33 public schools was chosen as "Teacher of the Year" at their respective schools. The field was narrowed down to finalists from the elementary, middle and high school levels.
From those, the district's representative will be chosen and go on to compete at the regional and possibly state levels.
The three finalists are: Ann Paquette Price, a second-grade teacher at Tommy's Road Elementary; Angela Lewis, a seventh-grade teacher at Rosewood Middle; and George Mewborn III, who teaches 11th- grade English at Spring Creek High.
The winner will receive a $5,000 travel/study stipend and a $1,500 check. The other two finalists will each receive a $4,000 travel/study stipend.
