Woman finds teen living in her home

A woman who had left town on business came home to find an unpleasant surprise -- her Perkins Road home had been "trashed" and a 16-year-old was lying in her bed.
Barbara Watson, the former director of Lighthouse of Wayne County Inc., a shelter for battered women, called authorities after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
She had come home to find her house burglarized, and worried that someone could still be inside the home, located off of Buck Swamp Road near the Lane Tree community.
Sheriff's Office Detective Richard Winders and others responded to the scene, where they found Aaron Scott Everett, 16, in a bed inside Ms. Watson's white brick home, Capt. Tom Effler said.
"Deputies responded and located a suspect lying in bed in the residence," Effler said. "Detective Winders, he's charged one so far -- I don't know if there will be any more arrests."
Everett was probably not the only person who broke into the home and used dishes, towels and other amenities belonging to Ms. Watson, Effler said.
"They trashed the place. I didn't go out there, but from what I understand, they trashed the place," the captain said.
Authorities said the mess inside the home included "chicken legs thrown down the hallway," cabinets opened, and valuables ransacked and left in disarray.
Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders said it was not initially clear if the uninvited guests had stolen anything from the home, but Everett was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
"We don't know if anything's missing yet," Winders said.
Bond for Everett was not available on the arrest report, Effler said.
