Slocumb Street shooting sends clerk to hospital

A shooting just before midnight at Brookside Conven-ient Mart on South Slocumb Street severely injured a store clerk, police say.
Ribih Mohammed Kan-deel, whose date of birth was unknown, was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital after the shooting.
A Pitt Memorial spokes-man said they had no information about Kandeel, although Goldsboro police records show he was transferred to the hospital for treatment.
"He could be listed under another name, he could be under confidentiality, but we don't have any information on him," Pitt Memorial Hospital spokesperson Beth Ann Atkins said.
Goldsboro police said they also did not have much information yet in the shooting.
"We don't have a lot of details on this right now," Law Enforcement Coordin-ator Sgt. Dot Ardes said. "Anyone who has any information should call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255."
There was no one staffing the Brookside Convenient Mart this morning, and an answering machine at the business says only "anwerer off."
In a separate, unrelated incident, a Goldsboro woman was arrested for an attempt on Antwan Laraye Pope's life on Aug. 4.
Charlene L. Moses, 45, allegedly entered Donnell's Convenience Store in the 500 block of East Elm Street with two handguns pointed at Pope.
She allegedly fired a shot and hit Pope, 18, in the stomach, and Pope was treated released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Goldsboro police have not yet commented on a motive for the shooting.
Ms. Moses is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, according to police.
She was jailed under a $5,000 bond, and a first appearance is set for Aug. 19, police said.
