Chamber to release civic center study Tuesday

City leaders will know Tuesday what consultants think about the possibility of building a civic center in this community.
And one of the keys to such a project's success might be the area's Air Force connection.
The Goldsboro-Wayne Travel and Tourism office announced the completion of the $36,000 four-month feasibility study last week, but would not release the results until a scheduled Tuesday meeting.
The study, which was completed by Strategy 5, reviewed three site options for the center -- an area near Wayne Community College, a downtown location and a site closer to hotels on the Spence Avenue and Wayne Memorial Drive off U.S. 70.
The company interviewed community stakeholders, asking them if there is a demand for the facility and what type of functions they would hold there if it were built.
Analysts also took a close look at what comparable facilities are available and and their proximity to Goldsboro to determine if there is a local need for the facility.
The study outlined a potential building program, projected expenses, projected capital costs and potential fiscal and economic impacts.
The Goldsboro-Wayne County Travel and Tourism office wouldn't discuss the findings, but said in a press release that "it became evident that resources could be combined to create a unique meeting venue to broaden the conference center's appeal.
"One viable concept was to intertwine an Air Force component with the conference center, creating the Air Force Museum and Conference Center concept."
The results will be released during a meeting at noon in the large conference room in the City Hall Addition.
