Dudley man charged with trafficking in heroin

A Dudley man has been charged with trafficking in heroin, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Lorenza Peacock, 24, of Old Mount Olive Highway, Dudley, was free this morning under $20,000 secured bond after being arrested during a traffic stop.
Wayne County Sheriff's First Sgt. Max Staps said investigators had been watching Peacock for several months when one of the investigators stopped the suspected heroin trafficker.
"He was identified through other drug investigations as being a significant drug trafficker in the Goldsboro-Wayne County area," Staps said. "Through our investigation, it was revealed (Peacock) often transported large amounts of heroin, and his driver's license was revoked."
Sheriff's Lt. Christ Worth spotted Peacock late Wednesday afternoon and pulled him over for driving while his license was revoked. The officer found a sealed container in the vehicle containing 80 bindles of heroin.
Staps described a bindle -- one dose of heroin -- as being about the size of a dose of headache powder.
As a result of the traffic stop and the investigation, the officers obtained a search warrant to Peacock's home and found $1,000 in cash and numerous firearms and numerous boxes of ammunition. Peacock is a convicted felon, Staps said.
Peacock was charged with marijuana possession, trafficking in heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
"He was an upper level, if not a major drug dealer in terms of what we found in his possession," Staps said.
The street value of the drugs, he said, would vary depending on demand anywhere from $800 and $2,800.
Investigators said they are continuing to pursue leads in the case that could lead to more charges.
Peacock was involved in a shooting at his home last year, when he confronted four intruders during a home invasion. There were four children at the home at the time of the assault. They and their mother and Peacock were held hostage while the men burglarized the home.
Peacock eventually shot and killed Antione Logan Chestnut, 19. The shooting was ruled self-defense.
