WCC graduates 12 cadets from law enforcement class

Wayne Community College graduated 12 cadets recently during its 52nd Basic Law Enforcement Training, or BLET class.
Certificates were conferred on Lounes Blackman, Ray Al Bravo, Edward Fritz, Curtis Russell and Marion Walton of Goldsboro; Douglas Honeycutt and Jennings Rhodes III of Pikeville; Anthony Mullis and Daryl Powe of Dudley; Robert Radford Jr. of Princeton; Joseph Sutton of La Grange; and Kit Walston of Stantonsburg.
Fritz demonstrated the most overall proficiency in use of firearms and was presented the "Top Gun" award. Cadets complete 48-50 hours ofhandgun, shotgun and combat work in both the classroom and on the firing range.
The Physical Fitness Award went to Blackman, 63, creduted with demonstrating drive and determination and exceeding expectations for younger cadets' performance, said Beverly Deans, BLET training director.
Valedictorian for the class was Honeycutt, a former Marine.
All of the recent graduates have been hired by area law enforcement agencies or have offers pending, Ms. Deans said. Blackman, Bravo, Honeycutt, Mullis, Rhodes, Sutton and Walton will be deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Powe will work at the Wayne County Detention Center. Russell will be working with Johnston County Sheriff's Office and Fritz with Wilmington Police, while Radford will serve with the Princeton Police. Walston is awaiting word from the Greene County Sheriff's Office.
