A Goldsboro man shot at a William Street store in June made a list of the city's "most wanted" after avoiding police by walking out of Wayne Memorial Hospital, authorities say.

But now police have caught Prentice Deshone Best, 25, of Slocumb Street, after citizen tips were delivered to the Crime Stoppers hotline.

The anonymous tip led to a Monday arrest at Best's home on the 100 block of North Slocumb, according to police.

Information provided by citizens led not only to Best's capture, but also to a marijuana seizure, police said.

Goldsboro police picked up $12,000 worth of marijuana at an undisclosed "separate location," according to a release and reports

Best appeared on a list of wanted fugitives after judges issued numerous orders for his arrest on misdemeanor charges.

Police later said Best also had outstanding warrants for felonious possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver.

The search for Best involved the department's public housing unit, warrant squad and at least one drug-sniffing canine officer, according to police.

Best was taken into custody without incident, police said.

In June, when Best was shot, a Wayne Memorial Hospital spokesperson reported he was in "good" condition.

Police said Best left the hospital after treatment of his gunshot wound allowed him to leave, but before they could serve warrants and put Best in custody.
