Wayne County residents are urged to take Tuesday evening and get to know their law enforcement officers and neighbors a little better.

Goldsboro, Fremont and Mount Olive will each join with thousands of other cities and towns across the United States in the 25th annual National Night Out designed to promote the local fight against crime, especially the sale and use of illegal drugs.

The Goldsboro event will be held at Herman Park, starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. It will feature exhibits, entertainment, games and refreshments. Its theme will be "Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs a Going-Away Party."

The Fremont event will be held at the corner of Sycamore and Main streets from 6 until 10 p.m. and will feature a live band and refreshments.

The Mount Olive event will be held at Westbrook Park from 6 until 8 p.m. Organizers said they hope residents and visitors will stop by the park, but then spend time in their own neighborhoods, getting to know their neighbors better.
