Thieves continue to target copper
After a rash of copper thefts over the weekend, they have continued early this week with both the Goldsboro Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office receiving reports.
Hugh Wesley Eagles of Eagles Properties reported the theft of $4,000 in copper wiring and tubing from a house on Somervale Lane.
Police said someone entered through a crawl space to remove the copper from under the house. Copper tubing also was taken from an air-conditioning unit at the house. Damages also totaled $4,000.
In the second incident, an entire heating/air-conditioning unit was stolen.
The $3,500 unit was stolen from the Salty Brook Lane residence of Bilal Abdalqder.
Meanwhile, Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating the theft of a $4,000 air-conditioning unit and $1,000 worth of copper tubing.
Mary Barnes Bills, of N.C. 581 North, told deputies someone had taken the unit and had removed the copper tubing that had connected a fireplace to a gas tank.
Identity thefts
*Mauri Lynn Besser, 41, of Chanute Road told police that someone had made $3,100 in fraudulent transactions by using her debit card.
*Kenneth Earl Grady Sr., 59, of Mills Road at Mount Olive said someone had used his identity to obtain money. The amount was not released.
