On Tuesday, Aug. 5, neighborhoods throughout Mount Olive are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 25th Annual National Night Out.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Mount Olive Police Department, will involve more than 11,000 communities across the nation. In all, over 35million people are expected to participate in 'America's Night Out Against Crime.'

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The Town of Mount Olive will hold festivities at Westbrook Park from 6 until 8 p.m.

Local businesses will be serving refreshments. The Mount Olive Police Department and local businesses will be passing out souvenirs for the kids. Residents are invited to stop by Westbrook Park but are asked to spend the evening with the residents in their neighborhood.

Chief Ralph Schroeder would like to personally thank the citizens that have shared in the responsibility of fighting against crime in Mount Olive by sharing information with the police, forming community watch groups and beautifying the neighborhoods they live in.

"Without the help and support of the residents of Mount Olive we (the police department) couldn't get the job done that we have so far," he said.
