This summer at the Goldsboro Family YMCA there is a more traditional summer camp program called the Outdoor Adventure Camp.
Lead by Tara Ruffin, participants are doing three week sessions, with two field trips every week, and getting an education about the environment. Some of the things they are doing include a trip to a horse farm for horseback riding, a canoe trip, fishing, backpacking, birdwatching and an over-night camping trip to end the session.
Each day while participants are at the Y, they are doing activities like archery, learning how to build a proper camp fire, navigation by compass, map making and more.
They will meet guest speakers along the way, such as a state Forest Service ranger, a state Division of Fisheries biologist, professor of botany from North Carolina State University and more.
Another three-week session begins Monday, and there is still room for more outdoor adventurers.
