Mount Olive College searches for college president

MOUNT OLIVE--The nationwide search has begun to replace Mount Olive College's third president, Dr. J. William Byrd, in the role since 1995.
Earlier in the year, Byrd announced he would be stepping down to concentrate more on external relations and special projects, including institutional advancement work. Once a successor has been named, he will assume duties as chancellor of the college.
The MOC board of trustees announced this week its presidential search committee had been appointed. Darrell Horne, board chairman, said duties and responsibilities for the committees leadership search had been outlined.
A description of qualifications for the presidency, taken from the college's by-laws, can be found on the institution's Website, www.moc.edu.
The search committee is comprised of representatives from the board of trustees, as well as faculty, staff and administration, the study body and alumni, and members of the Mount Olive and Wayne County communities, as well as the college's sponsoring body, the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists.
Among those named to serve on the search committee are Horne and trustees Eugene Sumner, Earl Worley and DeWayne Eakes; Carolyn Fader Hill, president of MOC Alumni Association; MOC staff members Opey Jeanes, vice president for special services, Brenda Cates, professor of math, and Jean Ackiss, director of church support; and Crystal Guy, president of the Student Government Association. Rev. Gary Bailey, pastor of Stoney Creek FWB Church, and Al Warrick, executive committee, Convention of OFWB Pastor, Micro FWB Church, will represent the FWB Church, while Mike Rouse, retired News-Argus editor, and Bill Bryan, president of Mt. Olive Pickle Company, will be the community representatives.
The college hopes to have finalists by Oct. 1 and a new president hired by 2009.
