MOUNT OLIVE -- The Lois G. Britt Agribusiness Center at Mount Olive College received a $125,000 grant from the Tobacco Trust Fund to study the grass-fed cattle industry.
The grant will help farmers interested in producing grass-fed beef with tools to evaluate and implement the alternative enterprise.
The project will examine consumer demand for grass-fed beef and will include a study of the supply of grass-fed cattle producers and processors. Workshops on how to develop business plans for grass-fed and other value-added beef enterprises are planned.
