The Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its free summer concert series, starting Saturday at Herman Park from 6:30 until 9 p.m. with an "Inspirational Day" concert.
The concert will feature gospel and jazz saxophonist Mel Holder of Jamaica, N.Y.; Good Morning Mercy of Rocky Mount; Tony Edmondson; the Matt Bartlett Band; the Voices of Praise of Victory Faith Center; Richard Phillips; and a mime by Colette Sherard and son Mikal. Vendors will be on hand with ice cream, funnel cakes, hot dogs, Italian ice and more.
Then, on Aug. 16, the city will host the second installment in the series -- a rhythm-and-blues and jazz concert at H.V. Brown Park, featuring the Tanya Ross Project of High Point.
The final concert will be a "Back to School Blast" Sept. 13. The department is looking for high-school-aged bands to perform. Interested bands should contact Tammy Greene at 739-7491.
Attendees should bring chairs or blankets.
