Law enforcement officers across the nation call this night a chance to build confidence in the relationships between regular folks and the people wearing badges.
This year marks the 25th National Night Out, a national celebration sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
Goldsboro's participation in the national celebration takes place Aug. 5, in Herman Park, from 6 to 9 p.m., accordin gto the police department.
And expect to see kiddie favorite McGruff the Crime Dog, because the national town watch association is an official supporter of the Crime Prevention Coalition, owners of the "Take a Bite out of Crime" campaign.
Goldsboro police department Cpl. Marissa Davis, a yearly organizer of the campaign, said she wants to attract vendors and businnesses to the event -- but not those who have the intention of selling anything.
Vendors who want to provide products that promote their businesses while also sending an anti-crime message are encouraged to participate, Davis said.
Games for children, music, displays and refreshments will be provided at the event at no cost to participants.
If you or your business is interested in participating in the event, call Davis at 580-4238, or Cp. Robbie Jones at 580-4256.
The theme for this year's National Night Out is "Give neighborhood crime and drugs a going-away party," according to a Goldsboro Police Department news release.
