Small breed dogs found abandoned in Wayne

The public's help is being sought in determining who is responsible for abandoning dozens of small dogs last Friday near the Wayne/Greene county line.
Wayne County Department of Animal Control officials said that they were called to the area of Rodell Barrow Road in the Cocker's Mill area on Friday, June 27 after a passerby found about 13 small-breed dogs running along the road.
Wayne County Animal Control Director Justin L. Scally said the dogs were found in Wayne County. However, it appears the case is related to a similar Greene County case.
"Our office received a call from Greene County Animal Control stating that they had found multiple small-breed dogs in their county not far from the Wayne County line on the same evening," Scally said. "We believe, based on our findings, that most of the dogs were being used for breeding purposes."
The dogs are now being treated and cared for in local foster homes. But investigators are seeking any information that the public may have regarding the dogs that were found.
"Calls can be anonymous", Scally said. "If citizens feel more comfortable, we also encourage them to call Crime Stoppers to report anything that they know about this, or any other animal related crime."
