Agents of the cooperative Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad led a raid that Sheriff Carey Winders called the largest drug bust so far this year.

Drug agents found 23 pounds of marijuana and 11.5 pounds of cocaine at 104 Gary Lane, Monday after investigating Derrick Omega Young, 28, of 119 Hooks River Road, for several weeks, Maj. George Raecher said.

The investigation led to a traffic stop by the Sheriff's Office patrol division, which according to a news release, "connected officers to the residence of 104 Gary Lane," with a Goldsboro mailing address.

Young is charged with one count each of trafficking in cocaine by possession and transportation, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for controlled drugs, Raecher said.

Drug agents said they also seized about $25,000 in cash from the Gary Lane home, located a few miles north of Eastern Wayne High School off of New Hope Road.

The Sheriff's Office paperwork showed that Young's alleged marijuana possession was split into four bags.

He was arrested in the Food Lion parking lot on New Hope Road in his 1993 green Subaru Legacy, wearing a white T-shirt, brown sweatpants and black sneakers, the report shows.

Bond was set at $750,000 with a first scheduled court appearance Tuesday, the day of his arrest, authorities said.
