MOC receives $100,000 donations

MOUNT OLIVE--Mount Olive College has received $100,000 from the Cannon Foundation to be directed to the college's Fine Art Village project.
The project will combine renovation of existing facilities with new construction to provide a vibrant arts outreach to rural eastern North Carolina. The focal point will be an open-air amphitheater, used for a variety of events including symphony performances, meetings and student gatherings. Surrounding it will be individual arts and crafts studios. An instrumental music building will provide practice and rehearsal areas for the college and community. Laughinghouse Hall, the current arts building, will be renovated as the final component of the project, adding classrooms and practice rooms.
The Cannon Foundation, established in 1943, has long been a patron of Mount Olive College, said Chris Wood, vice president for institutional advancement.
"The arts provide opportunities for education, exploration, reflection, worship, and cultural enrichment," he said. "We are grateful to the Cannon Foundation for their continued support and their contribution to the Fine Arts Village at Mount Olive College."
