Shooting suspect caught, charged

Goldsboro police found a city man accused of shooting another Goldsboro resident during a traffic stop Wednesday, according to police reports.
James Carnell Howard, 26, Goldsboro, faces felony charges that include a robbery and assault charge that police allege was an attempt to kill Prentice Best.
According to an officer's report, Best tried to flee Howard in the parking lot of Fast Trip Mart, in the 600 block of North William Street on June 7.
Best told police that a man matching Howard's description then shot him with a handgun.
Best was reported in good condition by a spokesman at Wayne Memorial Hospital this morning.
A magistrate set a $100,000 bond for Howard, who was driving under the influence and with a revoked license, according to B-shift police officer reports.
Howard failed to stop for police lights and sirens when a car pursued him in the traffic stop, according to a news release.
A first appearance for Best is set for June 18, where Howard will face a primary charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.
Police also charged him for driving without a license, for driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to stop for blue lights and sirens and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
