Neighbor accused in killing over kid's accident

A child was accidentally hit in the head with a metal baseball bat late Saturday, igniting an argument that left one man dead of gunshot wounds, police said today.
James Anwar Brewington, 29, Waters Street, was shot to death late Saturday with a handgun by Timothy Tramel Vaughn, police allege in incident and arrest reports.
Vaughn, 36, of East Walnut Street, faces one count of felony-level murder. Vau-ghn did not know his alleged victim, according to police reports.
The accused was being held without privilege of bond in the Wayne County Jail, authorities said.
Goldsboro investigations Maj. Jeff Stewart said "the story we were told" was that people were playing near the intersection of Holly Street and Waters Street.
A Goldsboro police officer responded to the scene and called in Investigator Dwayne Dean around 9 p.m. on Saturday.
According to reports, Dean was booking Vaughn for murder just five minutes after being called to the scene.
After his arrival, Dean soon found out that the child's injury had sparked the fight.
"It was actually one of the children ... that was hit in the head with a metal baseball bat. That was the catalyst for all this. They were just in the yard playing," the investigator said.
Dean said the quick arrest was a result of cooperative people on the scene.
"Yes it (investigation) was relatively easy. We had a lot of people that we interviewed, and we're still trying to interview some more people on it," Dean said.
