Several local executives and community leaders may find themselves in "jail" Thursday, as the Muscular Dystrophy Association "arrests" and "locks up" participants to raise money to fund health clinics throughout North and South Carolina and to send local children to MDA Summer Camp.

Running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., those who agree to be "arrested" will be cuffed at their offices and held at Comfort Suites. They will be released only when they make "bail" through donations from friends, family and business associates.

Approximately 100 people are registered to serve time at the event.

The theme for this year's lockup is "Champions Winning at the Game of Life."

Among the participating jailbirds are leaders from Goldsboro Milling, State Employee Credit Union, Goldsboro Police Department, Life Inc., Ezzell Enterprises and First Citizens Bank.

Breakfast and lunch will be served to the incarcerated throughout the day, and the Goldsboro Fire Department will help organize and run the event.

The MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The association's programs are funded almost entirely by private contributions.
