Goldsboro City Council expected to approve budget Monday

Members of the Goldsboro City Council are expected to take action on the city's proposed 2008-09 budget Monday night, after delaying approval of the $48.2 million spending plan June 2.

The budget includes resolutions increasing water rates 10 percent, as well as solid waste and inspection fees.

But the meeting will not just be about dollars.

Council members are also scheduled to hear three public hearings and to celebrate a local college's recent feat.

Members of the Mount Olive College baseball team are expected to be in the audience as Mayor Al King congratulates the Division II College World Series champions.

Residents will likely be on hand, too, as public hearings on zoning changes, conditional land use requests and a street closings are conducted by the board.

One of the hearings involves a request by Winston Smith to have property on the east corner of Corbett Road, between Mull Smith Lane and Mark Edwards Road, rezoned from R-20 to Residential Mobile Home.

Another involves a conditional land use request from Cid Yow regarding property located on the southeast corner of Corporate Drive and Clingman Street.

The council will also honor Terry Gallimore for his 19 years of service to the city and Troy Horner for more than 13 years as a city employee.

The meting begins at 7 p.m. in the councl chambers, with a briefieng session preceding.
