Man had aneurysm, not beaten
Police said a man who had an aneurysm and collapsed on a Goldsboro sidewalk has been given a negative prognosis by doctors. Alex McDuffie, 46, of Level Street suffered an aneurysm and was found bleeding on a city street. Police said Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room doctors said it appeared that McDuffie had blunt force trauma, so investigators launched an assault investigation. They were later informed by Pitt Memorial Hospital that McDuffie had had an aneurysm, police said.
Teeth lost in pole and knife attack
Maximo Andres of U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley, was hit in the face with a pole and cut with a knife by a person he is acquainted with on Will Anderson Road early Wednesday evening, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The injury included loss of teeth, according to a report. Investigation into the matter continues, police said.
Man smashes glass, tries to load gun
A 33-year-old Pikeville area man broke a glass gun case at the North Spence Avenue Wal-Mart and attempted to load a shotgun just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a Goldsboro police report. Recovered in the incident were a 12-gauge Remington shotgun and a box of shells. Brody Clifton, 33, was later involuntarily committed to Cherry Hospital by a Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room doctor, police said.
Two church break-ins
Two church break-ins were reported on Wednesday night, county and city authorities said:
*The first reported break-in was at Madison Avenue Baptist Church on South Madison Avenue. A back window suffered damages, but all the electronics apparently targeted for theft were recovered, according to a Goldsboro Police report.
*A few hours later, breaking and entering and theft was reported at Pleasant Union Church of Christ, located in the 1000 block of U.S. 13 South, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report. A fire-proof filing cabine and $800 cash were reported stolen Wednesday night by nearby neighbor Betty Powell, according to the report.
