Goldsboro Jaycees plan July 4 Parade

With only a month to go before July 4, the Goldsboro Jaycees are busy organizing Goldsboro's second annual Independence Day Parade and Festival.
The festivities will begin run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Friday, July 4, beginning with the parade, which will feature local dignitaries, fire trucks and Ubi the Clown.
But there is still room in the lineup, and the Jaycees are looking for more patriotic participants.
There is no fee for walkers and most other entries are $15.
Children are encouraged to decorate their bicycles in a patriotic theme, meet at the Pedestrian Plaza on the corner of Center and Chestnut streets and ride for free.
After the parade, the Jaycees will sponsor a street festival from 1 to 4 p.m. on the 200 block of East Walnut Street and Ormond Street. There will be food and entertainment, including Ubi the Clown, Karen Tiede and her dance hoops and more. Children also can enjoy various bouncy rides and view fire trucks and police vehicles.
The Jaycees also are still looking for vendors for the festival, including food and arts and craft vendors, and anyone who wishes to sell items as a fundraiser. Vendor fees are $25.
Both parade and vendor applications can be picked up at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce at 308 N. William St. or at the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation at 218 E. Walnut St. or on the organization's Web site at www.dgdc.org.
