BENSON -- Johnston County Sheriff's Office deputies found a man dead in the Meadow community south of Benson on Wednesday, and authorities say a nearby neighbor, his girlfriend and her mother are responsible for his murder.
All three -- Luis Angel Reyes Hern-andez, 27, his mother, Nancy Hern-andez, 48, and Am-anda Jean Russell, 26, all of the same Godwin Lake Road address, were jailed without privilege of bond, Johnston authorities said.
They also all face the same charges: robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree murder in the death of Bobby Glenn McLamb, 4321 N.C. 242 South, Dunn.
All of the suspects reportedly were acquainted with McLamb.
A Sheriff's Office news release said robbery was the motive, and that a dangerous weapon was involved in the death. McLamb had been known to carry a large amount of cash, friends and acquaintances said.
But the Sheriff's Office has not said what killed McLamb, saying the cause of death will await the report of Medical Examiner John Butts' staff in Chapel Hill.
McLamb was an acquaintance of the three neighbors in a community centered around Meadow School, the businesses it supports and one store -- Mac's General Merchandise. Acquaintances have said McLamb frequented Mac's.
Mac's sells locally-raised fresh pork products and staples like soda, bread, hot dogs and American cheese.
The stop also supplies local fishermen with worms, and serves as a center of communication for people who live along U.S. 242 South and nearby crossroads.
McLamb was one of those people, living in an area known as 'Broadslab,' by some locals, although one will not find that name on any map.
The Broadslab nickname is acquainted with the moonshining trade that still goes on in some N.C. counties, including Johnston.
Mac's has a long history of employing area teens and young adults with a job behind the counter, a place that often becomes a spot to gab with the customers they know well.
Friends of McLamb said he has one child, along with other close family who live nearby.
Johnston authorities say they have not finished their investigation, and added that additional charges are a possibility.
