Children's Festival Saturday

A Children's Festival for families of young children will be held on Saturday at Herman Park and the Wayne County Public Library from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Promoting the Born Learning campaign, the event is funded through United Way of Wayne County. The Partnership for Children of Wayne County implements the local initiative, which is part of a national public awareness campaign designed to help parents, caregivers and communities provide young children with early learning opportunities.

In addition to children's activities in the park, the festival will offer storytelling sessions at the library led by popular storybook characters Berenstein Bears and UNC-TV show character RAGGS the dog. Sessions are planned for 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.., noon and 12:30 p.m.

The first 100 children at the story session will receive wooden train whistles.

Free train rides on the Kiwanis miniature train will also be held, as well as a petting zoo, face painting, Safe Kids car seat checks, Spot the Tot, bicycle rodeo, string celebration concert and moonwalks.

There will also be refreshments and prizes, as well as educational materials.
