Beaman wins 2008 WCC Excellence in Teaching Award

Wayne Community College nursing instructor Sue Beaman was rcently named recipient of this year's George E. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award.
The presentation was made during graduation ceremonies, with Ms. Beaman given a framed certificate as well as a cash award of $4,000 and funds to attend the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development's 2009 International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas.
The annual award is presented to the instructor who exemplifies the highest standard of instruction. It is based on such criteria as interaction with students, effective classroom environments and innovations in teaching.
Ms. Beaman has taught at Wayne Community College since 1997, providing classroom and clinical instruction for associate degree and practical nursing students and serving as an advisor to the WCC Association of Nursing Students.
She was also involved in the WCC nursing department's preparation for the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission's recent visit, and assisted with writing and developing the curriculum and instruction standard for both the practical nursing and associate degree nursing programs.
She received an associate degree in nursing from Wayne Community College and bachelor's and master's degree in nursing from East Carolina University. In addition to her duties at the college, she co-owns F&S Nursing Review Company, Inc., providing review courses for nursing program graduates and practicing nurses preparing to take the licensure exams, as well as certification and continuing education courses.
She is now eligible for the 2008 N.C. Community College System and RJ Reynolds Excellence in Teaching Award.
