Local students earn recognition from DAR

The David Williams Chapter of DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution, sponsered a Good Citizen and a Christopher Columbus Contest essay contest and presented awards to local teenagers for their winning entries.
The topic of the Christopher Columbus Essay for the older teens was "How did the four voyages of Columbus change our perception of geography and alter world economics?"
The topic for the essay for grades 5-8 was "I Spy -- Espionage During the American Revolution."
All students who wrote an essay received a certificate of appreciation, while each grade level winner received a $50 savings bond.
Schools represented were Faith Christian, Goldsboro Intermediate, Greenwood Middle, Mount Olive Middle, Norwayne Middle, Wayne Christian, Wayne Country Day and Eastern Wayne High School.
The winners of the Good Citizenship Contest were as follows:
*Grade 5 Paul Richard Kaiser, III
*Grade 6 Kristen Nicole Hines
*Grade 7 Asia Danyell Morrison
*Grade 8 Anna Christine Etheridge
*Grade 11 Charles Allan Umstead Jr.
Paul Richard Kaiser, III was also the fifth-grade winner for District IX DAR.
The winners of the Christopher Columbus Contest were as follows:
*Eastern Wayne Ashley Smith
*Wayne Christian Logan Dawson
*Charles B. Aycock Abbi Davis
*Wayne Early Middle College Katlyn Mercer.
