Ronald McDonald scholars announced

Two area students were recently awarded $1,000 scholarships from Ronald McDonald House Charities for outstanding academic and community achievement.
Jessie Pineda of Mount Olive, a senior at Southern Wayne High school, and Brittany Harrell of Fremont, a student at East Carolina University who has worked at the Kenly McDonalds since high school, were among more than 30 students honored during ceremonies in Raleigh.
Ms. Pineda plans to attend Mount Olive College and major in business. Ms. Harrell plans to become a teacher.
