Planning Board gives nod to plan for new city bar

Goldsboro residents are one step closer to having another bar and restaurant to frequent.
The Goldsboro Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit requested by Jeff Darwin at its meeting Monday night. Darwin wants to use property located on the northeast corner of Walnut Street and John Street as a tavern and deli.
The establishment is the third place of entertainment approved in the downtown district, following the Flying Shamrock and the most recent request approved by the city council -- Redmon's on Center Street.
The board also approved a site and landscape plan for a new Bojangles' restaurant to be built at the former Wayne Hotel location, which is bounded on three sides by Elizabeth, Marigold and West Grantham streets.
Commission members approved a conditional use permit requested by Myco Supply Co. for property located on the north side of West Ash Street between Alabama Avenue and the Southern Railroad and a rezoning request by the Potter's House for property located on the east side of Bryant Street between Atlantic Avenue and Holly Street from residential to office and institutional.
The former Holloway's Barbecue location might soon become a church, as members approved a site and landscape plan for the site also Monday.
All of the requests must eventually be approved by the City Council. Public hearings were held on the conditional use permits at the last council meeting.
