The "Battle of the Books" is a quiz bowl type competition that encourages reading, and is specifically designed for students. Students were quizzed on 12 books.
Spring Creek Elementary School finished second in this year's competition. Members of the team included Coy Barnett, Renee Anderson, Daniela Resendiz, Margarita Bautista, Cailee Ladd, Magen Jones, Andie Strickland, Katie Winkleback, Taiesha Morgan, Auston Gray, Kess Fullington and Cassie Alphin.

The event was hosted by the Wayne County Library, Wayne County Public Schools and Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department.
"We are proud of all of the students who worked so hard reading these books and then ... have their knowledge tested," said Olivia Pierce, executive director for community relations.
"The Elementary 'Battle of the Books' Competition is a great way to immerse younger children in quality literature, and help them begin developing a lifelong passion for reading."
