Armed robbery

Goldsboro resident Thomas Ellis said he was robbed Wednesday at gunpoint while loading up his work truck in the 600 block of East Royall Avenue, police reported. A black man with a medium build, weighing about 222 pounds, a black toboggan with the face cut-out, black jacket and blue jeans approached Ellis with a sawed-off shotgun, Ellis reported. Ellis said the male demanded his wallet and took $120. The gun is described as an older model with a rusty barrel and a wood pistol grip, police reports show.

Investigation suspended

An N.C. Occupational Health and Safety Administration spokeswoman said she misspoke about the status of an investigation into the fall death of Shine Fire Chief Tully Layden in April. The investigation is "suspended," not "closed," while OSHA determines whether an employee-employer relationship existed where the accident occurred on Mulberry Street.
