'Jazz on George,' 'Walk it Out Goldsboro' to be held Saturday

Kicking off festivities across Goldsboro, Saturday, will be the Earth Day event, "Walk it Out Goldsboro."

Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stoney Creek Park, it will include a one-mile fun walk, guided trail walks and other games and activities.

It also will feature a farmer's market, health fair, educational booths, Earth Day activities, health and physical fitness vendors and demonstrations with audience participation.

It is sponsored by the Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department, Wayne County Health Department, Partnership for Children, WATCH, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, the Family Y and the Wayne County Public Library.

The rain date for the event is May 3. For more information, call Gail Charles at 739-7482.

Then, from 3 to 9 p.m., the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. and the Arts Council of Wayne County will sponsor "Jazz on George" -- a downtown art and jazz event.

Along with this event is a classic car show from 1 to 5 p.m., sponsored by Chevrolet, Cadillac of Goldsboro.

Jazz on George will take place along the 100 blocks of both north and south George Street.

Featured jazz musicians include Shawnette Beatty from Wilmington, the Starlight Dance Band from Goldsboro and international performer Julia Nixon of Washington, D.C.

Be sure to bring your blanket and lawn chair, but coolers are not allowed.
