Area authorities say one man is responsible for a string of robberies involving threats, cash, cigarettes and a sawed-off shotgun.

An armed robber who victimized four other Wayne County businesses crossed Goldsboro's city line Monday night, pointing a sawed-off shotgun at a woman's neck to steal cash, authorities said.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office was already investigating four other armed robberies, all involving a slim black man with a shotgun.

Then, Sadie Edmundson of New Hope Road, LaGrange, was reportedly robbed of $420 late Monday when the man pointed the weapon at her neck, according to police reports.

Police said the suspect wears a dark-colored bandana across the bridge of his nose and a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood up during his reported crimes.

In all five incidents, he has worn a camouflage jacket, and at least once a pair of camouflage-style pants, video stills collected by the Sheriff's Office show.

Police also report the suspect has used the same weapon multiple times to threaten lives and to steal cash and cigarettes, Sgt. Chad Calloway said.

That weapon is a pistol-grip style sawed-off shotgun that has silver-colored duct tape on the grip.

In the robberies recorded by the Sheriff's Office, the suspect has threatened clerks and demanded cash and cigarettes, according to Calloway.

After a robbery at a Kangaroo on U.S. 70 East Sunday, Sheriff Carey Winders wondered whether deputies might have a repeat offender on their hands.

"We might have the same guy running around doing these things," Winders said Monday morning.

In the Kangaroo robbery, the suspect used a sawed-off shotgun to take $30 and 39 packs of Newport cigarettes, according to the Sheriff's Office report.

Authorities think the robber is about 20 years old and has a slim build, along with a tendency to wear camouflage clothing in robbery attempts.

People with any information, no matter how trivial, are asked to call Wayne County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Robert Chunn at 731-1373, Goldsboro investigator Dwayne E. Dean at 580-4211 or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 735-2255.
