Steve Myers has been named classified advertising manager for The Goldsboro News-Argus.
Myers, a native of Washington, D.C., comes to the newspaper from the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area.
"I'm very excited to come back to a community-based newspaper group and I'm looking forward to integrating into the community and market here," he said.
Myers, 44, attended the College of South Maryland and the University of Maryland. He started his newspaper career at Chesa-peake Publishing, where he was promoted to advertising director, then later started a weekly community newspaper in New-port News, Va.
He later moved back to the Washington area, where he worked for The Washington Post as national recruitment account manager for 10 years. Myers joined TMP Worldwide/Monster as vice president of new business development, where he remained for five years.
In 2002, he moved back to the southern Maryland-Washington area, where he worked as classified advertising director for the Southern Maryland Newspaper Group, a subsidiary of The Washing-ton Post. In that capacity, he managed more than a dozen weekly, bi-weekly and monthly publications.
In 2004, Myers moved to South Florida, where he was director of advertising and marketing of the Daily Business Review.
News-Argus advertising director Becky Nye said she is impressed with the contributions Myers is already making to the service provided to the newspaper's classified customers.
"Steve's creativity and understanding of what businesses need will help us create ads that will get the job done for our clients," she said. "From the classified ad customers to auto dealers and Realtors, Steve can help them get their items sold and their revenue growing."
Myers has two sons, Alex, 23, who is studying at the Art Institute in Denver, Colo., and Zachary, 14.
