From staff reports
The Wayne County Services on Aging has five openings in its free respite care program.
The program is not adult day care.
It is designed to offer structured activities and supervision for senior citizens who have some form of memory loss but do not require assistance with personal care activities like eating or going to the bathroom.
There are no medical professionals on staff.
The program is designed to give caregivers the opportunity to drop off their loved ones and take a break.
Its goal is to offer them time to take care of themselves and to provide a pleasant experience for the seniors, so that for a few hours a week, the caregivers will know their loved ones are safe and that they can do whatever they want to do.
The seniors get to socialize, enjoy music, take part in activities and exercise. The center plans failure-free activities and has volunteers help give one-on-one assistance.
The respite care times are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Wayne County Services of Aging Respite Program is located at the Senior Center, 100 S. John St. For information call 731-1591 or 731-1608.
