Chamber plans State of the County

Hoping to kick off a series of community education meetings, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce will host the 2008 State of the Community presentation on March 26.
Presented by the chamber's Government Affairs Committee, the program will feature a series of panel discussions aimed at providing residents information on recent activities and future plans on a variety of issues.
The topics, which Chamber president Steve Hicks said could range from flu season information from the county Health Department, to agribusiness awareness by the county Cooperative Extension Service, to economic development and the schools, will likely be presented once a quarter.
This first session, scheduled for 8 a.m. in Wayne Community College's Moffatt Auditorium, however, will be an overall view of Goldsboro and Wayne County.
It will feature Goldsboro Mayor Al King, Wayne County Manager Lee Smith, Wayne Community College President Dr. Kay Albertson, Wayne County Public School Superinten-dent Dr. Steve Taylor and Wayne Memorial Hospital vice president of operations Tom Bradshaw.
"This is something we've talked about for a while. There are a great many things happening right here in Goldsboro and Wayne County that a lot of us don't even realize. Many exciting things were accomplished in 2007 and many more are planned for 2008," Hicks said. "There are numerous issues the average person would like to hear about, and what we're doing is bringing in knowledgeable people who can give insight on these issues through this series."
And it's an opportunity for residents to "get the inside scoop from people in the know and learn how (they) can be more involved in making Wayne County a better place to live and work," he said.
On March 26, the program will begin with a continental breakfast buffet at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $10 per person to help cover advertising, promotion and food costs.
