FREMONT -- A Fremont man is charged with first-degree rape of a child for molesting a 12-year-old, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
Detective Sgt. Richard Winders investigated Victor Alfonso Espino-Alferos of Peacock Street in Fremont for a report of sexual assault filed Tuesday, Capt. Tom Effler said.
Espino-Alferos, 21, was an acquaintance of the family, according to Winders' investigation.
A magistrate set a $500,000 bond for the Peacock Street resident, according to authorities.
A person is guilty of first-degree rape if the child is younger than 13 years old and the defendant is at least 12 years old and four years older than the victim, according to state law.
First-degree rape is a Class B1 felony, punishable by a maximum of 40 years for most offenders.
The minimum sentence for most offenders convicted of such a crime is 16 years in prison, according to state law.
