Sleeping Beauty will be the first ballet performance at Paramount

The Goldsboro Ballet will perform the Sleeping Beauty Ballet this weekend in the new Paramount Theatre on Center Stret.
The ballet is selling tickets now through Friday at the Community Arts Council on Ash Street from 9-5 pm. Tickets are purchased by the seat and they range from $10-$14.
The Goldsboro Ballet is the affiliate of the Community Arts Council of Wayne County and received a grant from the N.C. Grassroots Granting through our Arts Council of Wayne County for this production. With the support of the community, over the years, the Goldsboro Ballet has been able to provide dancers to perform Nutcracker at Christmas and a Spring concert.
Sleeping Beauty is filled with intricate pieces of choreography, which has been adapted from the Petipa Choreography. This is the third time the Goldsboro Ballet has worked on Sleeping Beauty.
Abbi Davis of Fremont is leading as Princess Aurora who becomes the Sleeping Beauty. All the young men of the kingdom have heard of the legend of the beautiful young princess who is under the spell of Carabosse, the Evil Fairy, danced by Megan Beachem of Goldsboro.
Lilac Fairy, another leading role of the ballet is Jordan Stevens, who recently won, by audition, acceptance into the NC Dance Theatre in Charlotte.
Young men from Eastern Wayne High School have volunteered their time to be the suitors of the kingdom. They include Jace Muehlenthaler, Andrew Cummins, Colin Malcolm, Tyler Beachem, and Werner Wooten.
The performance is two hours, with a 15-minute intermission, at which time concessions of food, drink, and small items can be purchased, including fresh roses. The rose is quite often a symbol of this ballet, which is considered the loveliest of stories about goodness and love.
Rented backdrops, including a palace and a forest scene have been chosen. Kim Davis has reconstructed a bed for the Sleeping Beauty. Debbie Baker has chaired the costuming, Robin Riddle, the props, Kelly Barrow, backstage, Kim Davis, strike and load, Cherie Jordan, program.
Many excited public and private school children will enjoy a special field trip to the new Paramount Theatre to see the synopsis of the ballet and enjoy the ballet outing. There are 30-minute synopsis available on the hour from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. The cost is $3 for each ticket and both the noon and 1 p.m. shows have spaces left.
