Lee Gray has joined the Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne staff as development director.

Mrs. Gray replaces former development director Sherry Archibald, who is now the Paramount Theatre director.

Habitat officials say Mrs. Gray brings many years of non-profit experience to the organization. She recently worked for 3HC raising funds, organizing volunteers, event planning and organizational development.

Although she majored in political science at Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va., and worked several years for stock brokerage firms, Mrs. Gray's first love is non-profits.

She said 3HC was her first job with a non-profit organization.

"I learned what a blessing that is to the community. I'm a non-profit lifer. I can't see myself going back to corporate America," she said.

She said she was very impressed when she found out about the opening at Habitat and did some research.

"I kept thinking how wonderful to help people who are trying to help themselves, and everybody deserves nice affordable housing," she said.

Her first day on the job was Monday, and Tuesday, she rode to one of the Habitat houses with volunteer coordinator Katie Huston.

The homes are beautiful, she said.

"Anybody would be proud to live in a Habitat home. I can't imagine how fulfilling it must be when they get the key put in their hands," she said. "I got chills walking through. It was so neat."

Sherry Archibald, a member of the Nominating Committee and the Development Committee and former development director for Habitat, said the members of the Habitat board of directors and the staff are excited about the enthusiasm Mrs. Gray brings to the job.

"Lee's strong faith and people skills will prove her to be a huge asset to the organization," Mrs. Archibald said. "She is wonderful at building relationships, and that is what Habitat is all about."

Organized in November 2001, the local Habitat affiliate has partnered with 25 qualified families in the community to build decent, affordable houses.
