Many Goldsboro streets will be repaved

Streets in nearly every part of Goldsboro will be repaved, with work already going on along sections of William and Chestnut streets.
The City Council discussed the city Engineering Departments plans for resurfacing this year at its recent retreat. A priority list of streets in need of repaving was submitted to the council.
Six streets are on the list in District 1, including both the east and west side of Center Street from Ash to Chestnut streets. Chestnut street from Center to George streets is also under consideration as is Mulberry Street from James to George streets. Granville Drive from Fedelon Trail to 115 feet west of Old Mill Place as well as Devereaux Street from Elm to Alvin streets are also priorities.
In District 3, seven streets make the improvement list, including Chestnut Street from Center to John streets and Mulberry and Walnut streets spanning from Center to Daisy streets. Spruce Street from Center to William and Slocumb to William will may also be repaved, as will Slocumb Street from Elm to Spruce streets. Hooks River Road from William Street to U.S. 117 Bypass is on the list, too.
In District 4, Slocumb Street from Dixie Trail to Stoney Creek Drive, and, in District 6, Warrick Circle from Berkeley Boulevard to the end will both be considered for resurfacing.
City officials use a pavement condition rating of the streets to identify which are in need of repaving. A very good rating is from 91-100, while a good rating is from 81-90, fair from 66-80, poor from 51-65 and very poor below 51.
The streets on the list are between the ratings of 54 and 96, and the resurfacing cost for all 14 streets is estimated at $625,771.
