Bill Lamm's Award

Bill Lamm of Goldsboro has received the Excellence in Agriculture Award from the Tobacco Farm Life Museum.
He is only the third person to receive the award for outstanding contributions to agriculture in the state.
Lamm, a longtime Cooperative Extension agent in Wayne and Lenoir counties, was recognized by state Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler at a breakfast at the Holshouser Building at the state fairgrounds.
The two previous recipients of the award were Troxler and Dr. Bill Collins, a former N.C. State University professor.
Wayne Extension Director Howard Scott said Lamm dedicated his life to improving farming in North Carolina. He first workeds as an extension agent for field crops in Wayne County from 1953 until 1973, then became director of the Lenoir County Extension office until his retirement in 1984.
Following his Extension career, Lamm went to work for the tobacco industry with the Cockran Corp., based in Memphis Tenn. He retired from that job two years ago.
