N.C. Award nominations sought

RALEIGH -- Nominations for the 2008 North Carolina Award, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the state, are now being accepted.

Created by the General Assembly in 1961, the award recognizes significant contributions over time of individuals in the fields of fine arts, literature, public service and science.

Award nominations may include biographies, resumes and letters of support. Submission of nomination is open to all.

They should be sent to the North Carolina Awards Committee, 4601 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-4601. Nominations are open until April 15.

The North Carolina Awards Committee will review the nominations and select the recipients this summer. The recipients, representing the best of North Carolina, will be honored during ceremonies in the fall.

The award program is administered by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, a state agency dedicated to the promotion and protection of North Carolina's arts, history and culture.
