A fuel oil spill at Charles B. Aycock High School over the weekend is being cleaned up by emergency personnel, school officials said Monday.
The spill was discovered behind the gym, near the school's boiler room on Monday. Classes were not in session, as it was Presidents Day.
Danny Langley, the district's director of maintenance, attributed the problem to a "return valve (that) was shut off on the primary fuel tank. This caused pressure to build up in the line, causing a seal in the boiler system's fuel pump to rupture.
