Thunderstorm that dropped roughly 3.5 inches of rain between 2 and 6 this morning left many Mount Olive streets under water. Town Manager Charles Brown said city crews were working hard this morning, checking drains for stoppages and clearing them where necessary. No damage to residences or businesses had been reported. “We’ve got the usual street flooding,” Brown said. “When you get that much rain in that little time, the drain system simply can’t handle it.” At about 3:11 a.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for a few miles west of the town. At the time they had indications from Doppler radar that there was a “strong rotation” around Wayne County. No touchdowns were reported, and the warning expired at 3:40 a.m.
