Lois Mooring running for re-election as registrar of deeds

After spending the past four years working to improve the Registrar of Deeds office in the Wayne County Courthouse, Lois Mooring has decided to run for re-election to her post.
"Since becoming registrar in 2004, I hope the citizens of Wayne County have found me to be courteous, hardworking and knowledgeable while conducting my job," she said.
As registrar, her job is to oversee her nine employees as they catalogue birth and death certificates, issue and catalogue marriage certificates, administer oaths and monitor renewal status for notaries, and record and index military discharges, real estate transactions, powers of attorneys, leases and separation agreements.
They also are responsible for helping residents access and copy those documents.
Since taking over the office, Ms. Mooring, 58, explained that she has worked to implement procedures to improve and streamline processes, reducing the time it takes to get documents returned from three weeks to three or four days.
She also said that because of the new standards and cross-training practices that she has implemented, customer service has improved and the office has become more efficient.
"The job of register of deeds involves dealing with the public and listening to their concerns. It also involves organization. I'm a stickler for detail; I want things to be in order," she said. "All employees are expected to work together as a team and talk with one another about the work going on here. They should all follow the same guidelines and be consistent in how they wait on customers.
"If one employee is out because of sickness or vacation, another employee takes over the task that needs doing."
And that, she added, is exactly what she wants to continue.
"I enjoy my job. The past four years have been very enjoyable and very productive, and I want to continue serving the citizens of Wayne County for another term. I'm not ready to retire yet," she said.
