Author to speak as part of Wayne Reads

Author Trudier Harris will talk about her memoir, "Summer Snow: Reflections on a Black Daughter of the South" Monday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Goldsboro High School.
The event, provided by the UNC Alumni Association, is part of the 2008 Wayne County Reads project.
The selection this year is "Blood Done Sign My Name" by Tim Tyson of Oxford. The book reveals how a family and a town dealt with the difficult and painful transition toward civil rights in the 1970s.
Dr. Harris has published articles and book reviews in such journals as Callaloo, Black American Literature Forum, Studies in American Fiction and The Southern Humanities Review.
She taught at the College of William and Mary for six years before joining the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She has lectured and published widely in her specialty areas of African American literature and folklore. In addition to lecturing throughout the United States, she has lectured in Jamaica, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy, England, and Northern Ireland.
And on Monday night, she will talk about the role of black women during the time the events in Tyson's book took place, throughout the Civil Rights Movement and today.
