AWOL airman caught in Georgia

A 4th Fighter Wing airman was arrested Tuesday evening at an apartment complex near Atlanta after spending more than 24 hours as a fugitive.
Airman 1st Class Darryl Green, 20, who is assigned to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's 335th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, was charged with two counts of kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, attempted rape, property damage and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
Glynn County Police Dept. Lt. Mike Mistisshen said the charges stem from an incident that occurred Monday night, when Green's 21-year-old wife told officers the airman barricaded her and their 5-month-old child in her apartment.
During the incident, Green's wife claimed he allegedly tied her up, broke several items in her apartment, tried to rape her, tried to force her to drink cleaning products and then shot at her while she was holding the baby, according to the police report.
Green then fled the scene in a silver 2006 Chevrolet Impala with North Carolina plates and was "on the run" until DeKalb County officials arrested him at an apartment complex around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
But now that he is in custody, the airman must face other charges, too.
4th Fighter Wing officials said Tuesday Green has been AWOL since Jan. 8 and that the wing was working with Georgia and federal law enforcement agencies to help apprehend him.
