Police believe the three men implicated in the February 2007 death of Karemond Abdullah Spells, 30, were trying to steal two pounds of marijuana, according to court records.

Those three men, including Michael Jamal Allen, 18, of Canterbury Court, Marcus Antwan Graham, 16, and Davon Samuel Cobb, now 20, both of Clint Drive, Dudley, were among 60 indicted this month by a Wayne County grand jury.

All three are charged with armed robbery, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and first-degree murder, court records show.

Cobb and Graham are former students of Southern Wayne High School in Dudley.

The affidavit of Goldsboro police Investigator Dave Cloutier reveals that Allen allegedly confessed to investigators that he pulled the trigger and hid the gun.

A Goldsboro officer found Spells shot in the head in the parking lot of the Westhaven Apartments on Astor Court, court records show.

Spells was inside a 1985 burgundy four-door Nissan Maxi-ma, according to court records.

Spells was still alive and was transported to the hospital, but later died at Pitt Memorial in Greenville, according to police.

A .380-caliber handgun was used to inflict the fatal wound, the affidavit shows.

That chrome, black-handled weapon would be found wrapped in a red bandanna under some wood to the right of a barn door in Cobb's back yard, according to Cloutier's affidavit to obtain a search warrant for Cobb's home.

Allen left the gun at the residence and had no contact with it after the early February 2007 shooting, Cloutier said in the affidavit.
